5 Unnecessary Spending’s to Cut

We’re already at the second quarter of 2017, how’s your financial situation holding up? Time to cut back on a lot of expenses in order to put more bucks to your savings, 401(k) fund, and cover for your travel bucket list.

If the habit of spontaneous shopping and trip to the nearest coffee shop near your office takes over you, it’s time to make a change—for the betterment of your bank account, mentality, and financial stability.

But first, where should you start? Track your spendings and create your budget. Once you’ve figured that out, list the things you shell out money on that you can cut back on—or completely cut off. To give you an idea what such expenses contribute to your overspending, here are some of those unnecessary spendings:

1. Your morning cup of coffee

Working, whether it be on mornings or at night, can be difficult especially if you don’t have the energy to do so. A case of Mondays for some, while a daily conundrum for most. This leads you to stopping by at your favorite coffee shop to fuel your soul and resist the urge to sleep.

All is well until you realize you’re spending a whole lot on coffee each day, that when it adds up, you’re basically shelling out more or less than a hundred dollars monthly. It could hold your budget back by $500-$1500 per year! That amount can help pay off your debt or fund your travel trip to wherever you want.

Cut back on your daily visit to the barista. Make your own coffee at home and bring it to work to cut corners.

2. Frequent eating out

Another splurge you need to cut back on is your frequent dining out at fancy restaurants just for Instagram’s sake. Your daily run to a fast food chain during work lunches should also be monitored. You’re spending so much on unhealthy food which takes a toll on both your health and wallet.

Starting now, prepare your meals at home. You one day’s lunch could stretch to a three-day lunch if you opt for meal prep.

3. Impulse shopping

One of the major reasons that put you on accumulated credit card debt and your wallet money down the drain is impulsive spending. Whether it be a night out at a bar or a stroll in the mall, make it a habit to keep yourself from taking out your wallet and buying yourself another drink or new pair of shoes you don’t need. Better yet, leave your credit cards at home to make these choices easier and your finances at bay.

While we’re discussing shopping, make list to carry at the grocery store to buy only the things you need; seeing the list makes you stick with it and avoid taking other items in your cart.

If you don’t want to feel regret and remorse after an impulse purchase, best avoid it in the first place.

4. Entertainment and leisure

We all know how much you love watching the latest releases in the big screen, how much you crave food and taste new gastronomic treats, as well as your thirst for wanderlust. These are what keeps you sane and what feeds your soul in this time of your life where work-life balance is badly needed. However, are you sure you’re not spending on leisure and entertainment a little too much?

5. Subscriptions and memberships

How’s your gym membership going? Any magazines, newspapers, and other online subscriptions deducting fees from your credit card? Oh, wait, you stopped using the gym and no longer reads magazines for quite a while now. So, how much of your money are going straight down the drain?

Review your current subscriptions that you’ve been paying and unsubscribe from those you no longer use and need. Ask yourself whether the subscription is worth it and if there are any other free alternative stuff you can replace it for.

As for your gym membership, grab your running shoes and go out for a jog instead. There are tons of Youtube videos as well that illustrate exercises no need for gym equipment you can do at the comfort of your own home—and that doesn’t cost a dime!
